Hurley Vineyard wraps north to east around the crest of a little volcanic hill in Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula. It comprises three distinct climats reflecting aspect:
Hurley Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010 ‘Lodestone’ (250 cases produced) Rated #8 in Jeremy Olivers Top10 Pinots of 2012
Dark garnet and bright. Intense, deep aromas of black cherries, roses, sage and sweetmeats. Equally intense in the palate, it tastes richly of dark berries, earth and delicatessen treats. In texture it is silky smooth and creamy, mouth filling and sweet. Well integrated oak. Excellent composition and line, finishing long, dry and persistent. A plush and generous style of Pinot Noir. Alc/vol 14.2%. To 2019.
Hurley Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010 ‘Hommage’ (125 Cases Produced)
Medium garnet and bright. As always, smelling of human sweat and wine gums, but very concentrated this vintage. Not fat, it is precise and tightly knitted in the palate, drier than the others, in the usual Hommage style. Tasting of dark, ripe fruits which are super-persistent. Finishes long and clean. The classic iron fist in the velvet glove which is a food wine to its core. Ready for the long haul. Alc/vol 12.8%. To 2019 plus.
Hurley Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010 ‘Garamond’ (300 Cases Produced) Rated #2 in Jeremy Olivers Top10 Pinots of 2012
Dark garnet and bright. Again that perfume of the boudoir, talcum and star anise. Ethereal. Tasting of raspberry, cherry, currents, Turkish delight and celery. Sweet and succulent but highly structured for those with the patience to wait. Really fine tannins. Superb linearity from entry to exit, vibrant acidity adding energy and verve. Beautiful oak in its proper place. Showing at last a little vine age (13 years). Perhaps our best wine yet. Alc/vol 13.7%. To 2020.
